11 septembre 2001. Les attentats de New York contre les tours jumelles offrent l’occasion au gouvernement américain de faire tomber Saddam Hussein. Pour parvenir à ses fins, l’administration Bush l’accuse de détenir des armes de destruction massive et d’entretenir des liens avec Al-Qaïda, le groupe terroriste instigateur des attentats du 11-Septembre. Malgré la désapprobation du Conseil de sécurité des Nations unies et celle d’une partie de la communauté internationale qui fustige les mensonges avancés par Washington pour déclarer la guerre, le régime irakien est rapidement renversé. Pour autant, le chaos s’installe dans le pays, bientôt déstabilisé par des dissensions internes entre sunnites et chiites.

September 11, 2001. The New York attacks on the Twin Towers provide an opportunity for the US government to bring down Saddam Hussein. To achieve his ends, the Bush administration accuses him of possessing weapons of mass destruction and of having links with Al Qaeda, the terrorist group behind the 9/11 attacks. Despite the disapproval of the United Nations Security Council and that of part of the international community which castigates the lies advanced by Washington to declare war, the Iraqi regime was quickly overthrown. However, chaos is settling in the country, soon destabilized by internal dissension between Sunnis and Shiites.
